About Us
Shepherd in the Pines Lutheran Church of Big Bear Lake, is an LCMS Lutheran congregation devoted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our church’s beliefs and teachings are found in the Prophetic and Apostolic books of the Old and New Testament and outlined by the historic Lutheran confessions of the Book of Concord.
We believe in one, true, triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We confess that each and every human person is sinful and unclean both in their nature and in their deeds. Because of sin humanity is at enmity with God and subject to the condemnation and death brought on by His Law.
By grace Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became incarnate, to redeem humanity by his death and resurrection. By His word, God delivers the salvation of Jesus Christ to undeserving sinners through faith alone excluding all works or merit.
Communion
Shepherd in the Pines confesses the true bodily presence of Christ in the Lord’s Supper. Holy Communion is to be administered to those members and guests who are baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and who share are confession of faith; that Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, is truly and bodily present in, with, and under the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation.
Worship
At Shepherd in the Pines, we believe worship is a time for the whole family to come together—adults, children, and all ages united in the preaching and hearing of God’s Word. Our worship style is liturgical, following the rich, historical settings found in the Lutheran Service Book, a tradition that has shaped the faith and worship of countless believers.
In our worship services, we gather as one body in Christ, receiving God’s gifts of the forgiveness of sins, where faith is both given and sustained through Word and Sacrament. Families worship side by side, and children are encouraged to participate, learning the rhythms and responses of the liturgy that deepen their faith and trust in Christ. We invite everyone to experience the comfort and peace that comes from hearing God’s Word, singing His praises, and celebrating the life we share in Christ.
